Plot:

A West Virginian mother anxiously awaits news from her two sons serving overseas, while in 1940s Philadelphia, Lena, a Black teenager, and Abram, her Jewish childhood friend, navigate a challenging romance before he deploys. Abram dies shortly after enlisting, leaving Lena heartbroken and determined to enlist herself.

Lena joins the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, led by Major Charity Adams, to tackle a massive wartime mail backlog. Despite facing racism, inadequate conditions, and impossible deadlines, the battalion clears two years' worth of mail in just 90 days, connecting soldiers and their families.

Through personal loss, camaraderie, and perseverance, Lena finds closure, honoring Abram's memory and building a future with Hugh, another soldier. The 6888's achievements, unrecognized at the time, are later honored, including a ceremony overseen by Michelle Obama.
