Venom: The Last Dance (2024) is a superhero film directed and written by Kelly Marcel, marking the final chapter of the Venom trilogy, following Venom (2018) and Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021). It is the fifth film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU). Tom Hardy reprises his role as Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote, joined by an ensemble cast including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Stephen Graham, Peggy Lu, Clark Backo, Alanna Ubach, and Andy Serkis.
Plot:
The story picks up after Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote are inadvertently transported to Earth-616 through Doctor Strange's spell. After a drunken night at a bar in Mexico, where Eddie and Venom ramble about aliens and cosmic stones, they are suddenly pulled back to their home universe, Earth-688.
Back in their own world, Eddie and Venom find themselves in more trouble than ever. Following their recent clash with Carnage, Eddie is framed for the murder of Patrick Mulligan, and the case becomes an international headline. To clear his name, Eddie flees to New York City, but unbeknownst to him, a new threat is closing in.
A dangerous creature called the Xenophage has begun tracking Eddie and Venom across dimensions. Meanwhile, Rex Strickland, a high-ranking military officer, runs a covert government operation called Imperium, located at the soon-to-be-decommissioned Area 51. This secret project is tasked with capturing and studying fallen symbiotes. Strickland's forces soon capture Patrick Mulligan, who survived his encounter with Carnage but was left for dead. Mulligan is bonded with one of the symbiotes captured by Imperium and is interrogated by researchers Dr. Teddy Paine and Sadie "Christmas" about the true nature of the symbiotes and their purpose on Earth.
As Eddie and Venom make their way toward New York, they hitch a ride on a plane, but the Xenophage attacks them mid-flight, forcing them to crash land in the Nevada desert. Venom reveals to Eddie that the Xenophages were sent by Knull, the god-like creator of the symbiotes, to find the Codex, a unique imprint that forms when a symbiote resurrects its host. Since Venom previously revived Eddie, they are now carrying the Codex, making them the target of the Xenophages.
After a series of tense encounters with Strickland’s soldiers and the Xenophage, Eddie and Venom cross paths with a group of eccentric hippies and alien enthusiasts traveling to Area 51. They offer Eddie a ride to Las Vegas, where Eddie hopes to lay low while searching for answers. Meanwhile, Strickland’s new symbiote-host, Mulligan, learns of Knull’s plan to use the Codex to break free from his cosmic prison. The Codex can only be destroyed if either Eddie or Venom dies.
Upon arriving in Las Vegas, Eddie and Venom visit a casino, where Venom shares an unexpected dance with Mrs. Chen. However, their brief respite is shattered when they are ambushed by the Xenophage once again. Strickland’s team captures Eddie and Venom and takes them to Area 51, where Eddie is reunited with Mulligan. However, the situation takes a dangerous turn when Strickland shoots Eddie, forcing Venom to break free from his restraints and reunite with Eddie. This act attracts the Xenophage, leading to a chaotic battle at the base.
In a desperate bid to protect Earth from Knull’s return, Venom realizes that to destroy the Codex and prevent Knull’s rise, he must make the ultimate sacrifice. Venom merges with the Xenophages and leads them into massive acid tanks, setting off an explosion that will destroy them all. As Eddie watches in horror, Venom bids him a final farewell before ejecting him from the blast zone. Strickland, mortally wounded, detonates grenades in a last-ditch attempt to stop Venom. Teddy bonds with a symbiote to save Sadie from the explosion as Eddie falls unconscious, the base burning in the background.
When Eddie awakens in a hospital, a military official informs him that his actions at Area 51 have been "expunged" from his record—on the condition that he never speak of the events that transpired. As he arrives back in New York City, Eddie stands before the Statue of Liberty, quietly reflecting on his lost bond with Venom.
In a mid-credits scene, Knull, now aware of Venom’s death, vows that the universe is no longer safe from his wrath. In a post-credits scene, the bartender who was captured by Strickland earlier escapes the ruins of Area 51. Amidst the wreckage, a black cockroach scuttles near a broken vial that once contained a sample of the Venom symbiote, hinting that Venom’s legacy may not be over after all.
