Sijjin is a Turkish supernatural horror film series that debuted in 2014, directed by Alper Mestçi. After achieving global success with previous hits, Mestçi returned to horror with this franchise, produced by Muhtesem Tözüm under Muhtesem Film. The films quickly gained international recognition as part of a new wave in Turkish horror.
The title Sijjin comes from the Arabic word meaning a book of the damned or a prison in hell, with its origins unclear. It appears in the Qur'an in Surah 83:7–9.
Plot:
The story centers on Irma, who falls in love with her cousin Galang. Despite his deep love for his wife and children, Galang sees Irma only as a cousin. Obsessed with becoming the only woman in his life, Irma seeks the help of a shaman to win his love. The shaman agrees, using black magic to torment Galang's wife with five nights of terrifying nightmares. The horrors she faces, including possession, mystical disturbances, and suicide attempts, ultimately lead to her death. However, the terror unexpectedly begins to haunt Irma as well.
